While we’ve all been having an earnest debate about what should go in the bill and how it should get done, the real fight in Washington has been over who’s going to get the corporate money.

The author calls Snowe the corporatist Democrats’ “beard” (as in, their cover for the crappy compromises they’re making with the insurance industry). Funny, sad, and apparently true.

To put this into perspective, 98,000 deaths is like two 737s crashing every day for a whole year. If this were the case, would lawmakers consider giving the airlines immunity, or make air travel safer instead?
